3月30日 PolitenessAs you can see, I will frequently talk about the "important" things in life. Well I took my grandma to the dentist. Weird huh?? Haha. Anyways, I was reading Readers Digest. And it was talking about "courteous". New York was actually the most courteous city/state. And I forgot the least courteous...But ya. Most Asian countries were on the "least courteous" list. You'd think they would be on top, right? A few places from China, Seoul (Korea), German, Thailand...etc. But ya. Haha very neat if I say so myself. No not really hahaha. I'm still obsessed. And I really like this glowing text thing!! Woohoo!!  Anyways..wasting my time here!! yay!! woo hooo!!!  Hi Wen!! Long time no see/talk. I miss you ^_^!!!! Hows it going?? Nice weather over there? 3月19日 Yo~ (again)Hey guys. Wassup. Long time on...err...blog? Ha. Anyways, nothing much has happened. I bought a new cell phone. It's a Sony Ericsson W810i. Such an awsome phone. The pictures are gorgeous!! Hence the photo album over there --->!! Lot's of pictures of me. Haha. But ya, pretty awsome phone, I love it so much. It has MP3 player functions.
Science fair was totally hectic. Totally glad it's over. Bleh but still more projects on the road. Jeez. Life sucks now, hope it gets better. Crossing my fingers!!
Hey, have you ever liked a person and then not like him anymore, but then when you see him like someone else you get that pang in your heart/conscience?? Ya that's what I got. Hopes it temporary. I thought of something cheesy like writing a song about it...But nah. Now me.
I did find a way to sing the shima-uta style. Can't wait to practice and try it out. Folklore music and lots of older music really influence me. Really want to go pro in singing opera maybe and Shima-Uta. It's not just japanese, it's around the Taiwan and Okinawa regions. Really excited. Hope I get it in pro. Ha I wish.
Things I really like, I hope I get really good before I give up. Then I know I'll have some back up if I dont get the job I get. Hmm. Good plan huh? Well can't wait to show you guys some improvment. :^)
Ciao~ 3月7日 HIV/AIDS presentation.Today I volenteered to go to an HIV/AIDS presentation. One reason was not to go to class and two was to learn more of HIV/AIDS. Wow it was so enlightening. I learned so much. There was a doctor who researched on HIV/AIDS, he was named Blake. I forgot his last name. But ya explained some things after a speaker who was infected with the virus. He said it can happen to anyone even if you're not gay or sharing a needle. He thought only those people got or had a higher chance of getting it. But he was wrong, and he was diagnosed with it in 2003.
Blake explained to us the basics of the AIDS virus (my friends and I were the only grade 9ers) to us and how it's increasing is some places. In north america and south america it's kind of controlled and not really a big problem (ok it is a big deal). But in Africa there are like 2 million (billion?) people who are infected with the virus. We only have in the ten-thousands. It's amazing how there are so many people infected.
There were some interesting facts like how some people in Kenya. Women. Not being sexist or anything. It's just in some countries that men leave women and then she has to do "survival sex" to earn money for some food on the table. And they get the virus from older men that they sleep with. The interesting thing was that some of the women are "resistant" against HIV. Weird huh? They DID have sex with men with HIV but they tested HIV NEGATIVE! They don't use protection or anything else.
Blake said that they tested these women and they found that there was this chemical/substance called "Trappin-2". All women have it but these women seem to have more. They got the trappin-2 and tested it with the HIV infected blood. It seemed to lower the HIV in the blood. Amazing? Ya I was amazed. I thought that nothing would shield away HIV in an intercourse except a condom. So they want to find a way to use this Trappin-2 in a vaccine or gel to put in a women. Like before the cervix.
He finished is PowerPoint presentation and it was question time. People asked some really good questions. I was kind of scared to ask a question, but I ended up asking 2.
"Say you did find a cure, would this virus have a potential to mutate/change and be a immune to the medicine?"
He said yes there would be a chance that it can happen. That's that they have to control the whole virus. He said the virus was made of 3 components, if they just had a medicine for pinpointin one component, then it has a better chance of changing. They have to isolate and control the whole.
"Could these women be exposed to something that could of caused them to be immune."
He re-explained that story about the women and the DNA/Genetics thing. I don't think I really got a good idea. But I think I didn't ask it right that's why.
I learned that HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) could of come from SIV (Simian immunodeficiency virus) a primate disease VERY simular to HIV. And it started way back back somewhere when (don't think too back). These people at monkeys. And these monkeys had this disease, and they cut it and there was blood. I think you should know the rest. It got into out system and changed. HIV can be in a monkey, too! Ya. They think this could be why.
Also you CAN'T gent HIV from a mosquito!!! Because the sailiva (which we're allergic to, and is why we itch) KILLS human cells including the HIV virus. AMAZING!!! Maybe that could help alittle maybe?
My friend asked is HIV/AIDS could be completely gone. He said no. But he said it can definately be controlled within a few years. But not completely gone.
I think there shouldn't be...I dunno a cure that's in North America...I know it sounds mean. But I think it should go to Africa frist. I mean...most people here do really stupid things. I think people should be scared shitless first before getting the cure, because they'll never learn their lesson on not haveing safe-sex. |
